Some players have had boots named after them including Pule 'Ace' Ntsoelengoe, David Beckham (+Predator Absolute), Matsilele 'Jomo' Sono (Jomo Somo King), Ronaldo de Assis Moreira ( Nike Tiempo Ronaldhino), George Best (The Stylo ‘George Best’) and others..
Black Leopards midfielder Myron Shongwe is not amongst this group of distinguished footballers, but is definitely amongst the rising number of players who have chosen to wear colourful boots.
We spoke to him about this.
Why do you wear the colourful boots?
I wear them because I want to be easily identified by my teammates when we play. The pace of the matches nowadays is very fast, it takes a split second for a teammate to decide to pass the ball, I make it easier for them by the bright colours of my boots.
Are they sponsored boots?
No they are not sponsored.
What brands are your boots and what colours do you have them in?
I have three Adidas F50 Plus pairs - they are orange, blue and green.
Which other players do you know who wear these colourful boots?
Teko Modise at Orlando Pirates, Didier Drogba (Chelsea - English Premiership) and Benson Mhlongo at Mamelodi Sundowns.
Do you have superstitious beliefs about them?
No not at all.
Other players weraing these colourful boots include Freddie Ljungberg (West Ham United and Sweden), Michael Carrick (Manchester United and England), Florent Malouda (France and Chelsea) and Emanuel Adebayor (Arsenal and Togo).
