The game ended in 1-all stalemate after Mahlatse Maake equalized in the second half.
After reshuffling the team and losing top players like Myron Shongwe and Alpheus Kekana, Leopards could not have asked for a better start than holding AK to a draw.
AK won last season's campaign but lost twice in the national playoffs to both Maritzburg United and Bay United for a place in the Premier Soccer League.
Leopards brand manager Tshifhiwa Thidiela was over the moon with the weekend's result saying the team played well.
Thidiela described the game as very difficult adding that earning a point away was a good omen.
"We could not have asked for a better start than the one we got. It was not an easy game but we played well and deserved a point. The players are raring to go and I think before long we would gel as a team," said Thidiela.
He described the first division as a tough league which would not be easy to win. However, he was confident that Lidoda Duvha would do well and make the people of Limpopo proud at the end of the season.
Leopards would take a week's break during the Fifa international week and would play their next game against Witbank Spurs next weekend in Malamulele.
